'Deathwatch' is a 2002 British Horror Film. In the brutal trench fighting of the First World War, the survivors of a British unit, Y Company, are separated from their regiment after a fierce battle. Attempting to return to their lines, the British soldiers discover what appears to be a bombed out German trench, abandoned except for three German soldiers. After killing most of the Germans, and taking one prisoner, the British company fortifies to hold the trench until reinforcements can arrive. Soon, however, strange things being to happen as a sense of evil descends on the trench and the British begin turn on each other.
The following weapons are seen in the movie Deathwatch:
Warning: This page may contain spoilers.
Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver
The revolver used by the British troops of Y Company including Pte. Charlie Shakespeare (Jamie Bell), Capt. Bramwell Jennings (Laurence Fox), Sgt. David Tate (Hugo Speer), Pte. Thomas Quinn (Andy Serkis), Pte. Anthony Bradford (Hugh O'Conor) and Cpl. 'Doc' Fairweather (Matthew Rhys) is the Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver. Note that Quinn has a bayonet attachment fitted to his; whilst the bayonet had never been used officially by the British Army since 1915, it is still possible that Quinn got his hands on one.
Luger P08
A Luger P08 is used by Laurence Fox as Capt. Bramwell Jennings when he threatens Pte. Willie McNess (Dean Lennox Kelly) to stop him going over the top.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The German soldier Friedrich (Torben Liebrecht) uses a Mauser Gewehr 1898 to hold Pte. Charlie Shakespeare (Jamie Bell) at gunpoint at the end of the film. The historically accurate Gewehr 1898 is only used in this part and at the beginning; the rest of the Mauser rifles are the historically anachronistic Karabiner 98k.
Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III*
Used by almost all of the British soldiers of Y company including Pte. Charlie Shakespeare (Jamie Bell), Sgt. David Tate (Hugo Speer), Pvt. Jack Hawkstone (Hans Matheson), Pte. Willie McNess (Dean Lennox Kelly) and Pte. Anthony Bradford (Hugh O'Conor) is the Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III*, the standard issue rifle of the British Army during WW1. Pte. Barry Starinski (Kris Marshall) has a telescopic sight fitted to his.
Bergmann MP18
A Bergmann MP18 is wielded by Jamie Bell as Pte. Charlie Shakespeare in one scene. It is a common misconception that the MP18 wasn't introduced until 1918 with the Ludendorff offensive. However, this is not the case as there are reports that it arrived on the battlefield (albeit in small numbers) as early as 1916. It would, however, have more likely used a "snail drum" magazine as opposed to the 20 round box one used in the film.
Vickers Mk1 Machine Gun
Pte. Willie McNess (Dean Lennox Kelly) uses a Vickers Mk1 Machine Gun in the opening sequence.
Maxim MG08
A Maxim MG08 is used by German machine gunners in the opening sequence.
Mills Bomb
Used by Jamie Bell, incorrectly referred to as a pineapple grenade by another Y company soldier.
Potato Masher Grenades
Used by the British soldiers of Y company as they clear dugouts, Shakespeare compares them to the mills bombs. Can't recognise the type of grenades though because these seem slightly different to WWI potato mashers.
