Raising the shoulder makes a nice and firm socket for the buttstock, and the muscle will work like a recoil pad. This is also how riflemen were trained back then. For all the non-tacticool, traditional rifles, this is a superior stance. There are old instruction videos on youtube, check it out.)]]

The following guns appear in the film Gran Torino:
Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) uses an M1 Garand that he kept from the Korean War to chase Thao Vang Lor (Bee Vang) out of his garage and scare the Hmong gangmembers off his lawn. Walt misfires it when slipping in his garage when he is chasing after Thao.
Colt M1911
Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) uses a pre-war commercial M1911 (as evidenced by the blue finish) that he kept from the Korean War to aim at the "Spooks" to scare them away from Thao's sister Sue Lor (Ahney Her), and is seen carrying it around in many scenes. Walt carries it around in his belt without a holster.
MAC-10
MAC-10s are used by the Hmong gang members to shoot up the Lor's house during a drive-by.
IMI Uzi
Smokie (Sonny Vue) flashes an IMI Uzi when arguing with the Hispanic gangsters.
