Information
The Colt Flare Launcher is is a 37mm flare launcher built to looks like an M203 grenade launcher and is commonly mistaken for on in films on this site. It is built for civilian use as an under slung rifle commonly mounted under M16/AR-15s variants and many other rifles. It is preferred for film use over a genuine M203 mainly because, unlike the M203, it is not considered a Class III "Destructive Device" in the U.S. and is therefore not subject to NFA regulations. It is also much cheaper than the M203, at around $200, whereas the M203 often sells for $1500+.
The 37mm Colt Flare Launcher can be distinguished from the M203 based on the following traits:
1. The M203 is a 40mm launcher capable of firing multiple purpose rounds, the Colt is a 37mm launcher built specifically as a flare launcher for civilian use.
2. The Colt has an M16 style safety switch on the left side, the M203 does not.
3. The Colt lacks a fold out trigger in the front of the trigger guard, which the M203 has.
4. The M203 has a more rounded trigger guard, the Colt 37mm has a squared one.
5. The Colt 37mm has a little bolt on the right side to cock the weapon, the M203 cocks on closure.
6. The Colt 37mm has larger, squarer mounting base while the M203 has smaller rounded mounting base.
The Colt Flare Launcher has been seen used by the following actors in the following Movies, Televison, Anime, and Videogames.
