Originally, the Smith & Wesson Model 13 was an unofficial designation for the 'Airweight' Aircrewman, an alloy framed version of the Model 10 purchased by the US Military for use by air crews. This revolver was later deemed unsatisfactory and removed from service, with all but a handful subsequently crushed for scrap. The later Smith & Wesson Model 13-1, along with it's further revisions, is a .357 Magnum version of the Model 10.
