Couldnt it also be possible that the assault rifle is the AK-103? With it being an alternate timeline, the Russ could have stayed with the 7.62x39 as thier primary rifle cartridge. It has the muzzle break and furniture of the AK century series but has the sharply curved 7.62 mags. The gas block and lack of grooves on the stock might just be modeling fuck ups.

I have removed the following line as it was incorrect "Unlike the real-life M92, the one in game has a 17 round magazine." They do make 17 round magazines for the Beretta 92. -User:AdAstra2009

Assault Rifle

The Assault Rifle in game is infact based on an AKM not an AK-74M (even though that would likely be the gun used by real Russian Soldiers in a 2003 setting). That is because:

- The magazine used in the game model is way too curved for it to be an AK-74 magazine.

- The shape of the stock is that of an AKM Rifle - the top aspects of the stock sharply rise up as you follow it away from the reciever, and it lacks the horizontal groves on the sides, which are present in AK-74 Rifles.

- If you zoom in, or get a close image of the rifle during gameplay, the gas block assembly is identical to that of the AKM.

The Assault Rifle model in the game has a full muzzel brake similar to AK-74 Rifles, as well as greyish synthetic, rather than wooden, furniture. Both of these are uncommon in AKMs, though it could suggest a new model of rifle based on the AKM.

So for all intents and purposes, and lacking and official names from the developers, I think the Assault Rifles should be labeled as the AKM which it definately resembles the closest. Tec-9 15:18, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
