:Yes but think budget concerns for the actual movie. A P-1 is more likely to be used as a movie prop than a P38, an older gun. If you don't agree, I'll switch it back to P-38. | :Yes but think budget concerns for the actual movie. A P-1 is more likely to be used as a movie prop than a P38, an older gun. Revision as of 08:31, 2 August 2008
The following guns were used in Rambo (2008)
Barrett M82CQ
This .50BMG Rifle designed by Barrett Firearms is a Close Quarters Combat version of the M82A1M/M82A3, easily distinguished by the short barrel. It is used by the SAS-Trained Sniper 'Schoolboy' (Matthew Marsden) throughout the film. The weapon is seen breaking the rules of physics by sending people airborn when they are shot by it. The weapon is also seen fully sound suppressed, depsite the fact a .50 caliber weapon can only be partially suppressed.
AKM
- A variety of AKM type full buttstock rifles (not Norinco Type 56) are seen in the hands of the Burmese Junta Soldiers.
AKMS
- A variety of AKMS under folder type rifles (not Norinco Type 56) are seen in the hands of the Burmese Junta Soldiers.
Rubber AK
- Obvious in many shots there are many RUBBER AKs/Type 56s/AKMs. Most noticeable because their trigger guards are thicker than normal and sometimes the front sight has no hole and are solid rubber blocks.
Norinco Type 56
- There are many AK types in the movie, and upon further study, most of the models will be identified. But one of the obvious ones is the Norinco Type 56. It is obvious in the hands of some of the Burmese Junta soldiers and during the final battle En-Joo (Tim Kang) grabs one and fights with it.
Type 56 with pig sticker bayonet
- Most obvious during the night raid on the village, the Junta soldiers use Type 56 rifles with the classic 'Vietnam' era pig sticker underfolding bayonet.
Modified Norinco Type 56-1
- Myint (Supakorn Kitsuwon), the Karen Rebel leader carries a cut down AKM (probably modified from an original Norico Type 56-1 converted to full auto) and appears to be the same short rifle that Claire Danes fires in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. It is NOT an AKS-74U and there is no such rifle as an AKS-47U like the airsoft weapon we sometimes see. What is confusing is that it has the non-ribbed folding stock like the Norinco and the non-ribbed dust cover, but the front sight is definitely a .5" AKM style and not the .75" Type 56 style, but since it is a custom gun, it could be built from parts of several guns. It is probably the same rifle as T3 since Harry Lu was the armorer for this movie and Mike Papac was the armorer on T3 and they both work with Syd Stembridge and each other.
Walther P-1
The Burmese Pirate Leader is carrying a Walther P-1. This is a modern reproduction of the classic Walther P38 first in production in 1957.
- How do you know it's a P1? Rather than a P38? The scene is dark and as far as I know, there are no obvious details that make it the P1.
- It is more likely as original P38s are older, rarer guns while P-1s are newer, easier to aquire guns.
- That's the reasoning? Third world countries still have stocks of old guns that the rest of the world never see. There is no reason why this cannot be a P38 just like Rambo's M1911 can be an original Wartime gun.
- Yes but think budget concerns for the actual movie. A P-1 is more likely to be used as a movie prop than a P38, an older gun. If you don't agree, I'll switch it back to P-38.
- ooooookayyyyy. I'll bite. I'm a weapons wrangler and I know the armorer for Rambo and I can ask him. BUT also, in the armories of weapons wranglers in Hollywood there are TONS more P38s than P1s. People have been doing World War Two movies for decades and a lot of the P38s have been in inventories since Casablanca and have been used in everything from COMBAT to Kelly's Heroes to Hogan's Heroes to Schindler's List. When I was at the former Stembridge arms room, all of their World War 2 movie weapons were actual 1940s guns. A lot of their non full auto weapons went to ISS and other places. Ultimately I can always try to contact Harry and check specifically. If anything it should be P-38 with the subnote that it may be a P1 (being the P38 is the original gun).
Tokarev TT-33 pistol
- Dropped by one of the Burmese pirates and visible on the deck of the boat before Rambo kills him.
M1911A1 pistol
- Rambo uses an M1911A1 pistol to take down the Burmese Pirates on the River.
Jericho 941 "Baby Eagle"
M18A1 Claymore Mine
- Rambo grabs a Claymore from Schoolboy to set a trap. It looks to be the BLUE training version of the Claymore.
M67 Hand Grenade
- En-Joo (Tim Kang) grabs an "M67 Grenade" from a pouch and throws it. But in the shot it's an obvious M69 Metal training grenade (even visible with the 'blue' paint of the inert model).
British Tallboy Bomb
- One of the first bunker buster bombs, the British Tallboy "Earthquake" bomb was 21 feet long and weight 5 tons and was used by the R.A.F. in 1944. The one seen in the film is halfway submerged in the soft jungle earth and extends 10 feet high. Though people thought that the explosion mimicked a nuclear explosion more than anything, a 5 ton conventional bomb is a massive explosion that resembles a small nuke blast. A goof is that the British never used the type of planes that carried the Tallboy in Burma. It was mainly used against the Germans during WWII.
M16A1
- Karen rebels carry M16A1 rifles in large quantities.
M4A1 with M203
- Carried by Reese (Jake La Botz) with a tan camo paint job and an ACOG scope.
DSA SA-58 OSW
- Carried by Diaz (Reynaldo Gallegos).
SIG SG-551
- Carried by En-Joo (Tim Kang).
FN MAG
- Clearly seen on the Burmese Patrol boat. It's a FN MAG-58 with an M240 style flash hider.
M136 AT4
- Myint (Supakorn Kitsuwon) fires an M136 AT4 rocket launcher at the Burmese Patrol Boat.
M29 81mm Mortar
- Used by Junta forces and the Karen Rebels
Mossberg 590 Custom
- SAS trooper Lewis (Graham McTavish) carries a Mossberg 590 with a Magpul M93A rear stock attached to a Mesa Tactical M4 adapter block and a Mesa Tactical Top receiver Rail with an EOTech holographic Sight.
Browning M3 Anti Aircraft machine gun
- The Browning M3 (the anti aircraft version of the M2HB .50 Cal machine gun) used in the film has a perforated shroud around the barrel and a modern twist - a Muzzle Brake (similar to a Barrett M82A1) to divert the flash to the sides, especially useful if you're shooting from behind an armored shield and your only viewable area is directly above the barrel. The M3 had a long heat shield for several reasons, not the least bit being that when used against aircraft in WW2, the bursts were much longer as gunners attempted to walk their fire (via tracers) onto their targets. The barrels grew red hot and the heat shield not only helped protect the crews, the added area improved the heat dissipation qualities of the barrel. It is not the standard air cooled Browning M2HB that is usually seen mounted on vehicles.
Browning M2HB machine gun
- The only standard M2HB in the film is seen on the Burmese Pirate Boat near the middle of the film.
