Vantage Point is a 2008 action thriller focusing on an assassination attempt on the President of the United States Henry Ashton (William Hurt) as he promotes a treaty to fight international terrorism in Salamanca, Spain told from the different view points of Global News Network producer Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver), United States Secret Service Agents Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox), American tourist Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), Spanish police officer Enrique (Eduardo Noriega), deadly terrorists Suarez (Saïd Taghmaoui) and Veronica (Ayelet Zurer), and blackmailed former special forces member Javier (Edgar Ramirez). Due to principal filming being done in Mexico City, a number of the firearms in the film (notably the Beretta 92FS pistols) are reproduction blank replicas instead of blank-converted registered firearms, likely due to lack of availability.
The issued sidearm of USSS agent Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) is a SIG-Sauer P229 pistol chambered in 9x19mm, instead of the correct .357 SIG ammunition chambered for the real life USSS SIG pistols.
At one point in the film we see a USSS agent using the newer SIG-Sauer P229R (with a rail on the frame nose) while pursuing Enrique (Eduardo Noriega).
Beretta 92FS
The most commonly used gun in the film is the Beretta 92FS pistol, seen carried by Spanish police officer Enrique (Eduardo Noriega), as well as all of the terrorists in the film. USSS Agent Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) is curious seen using a Beretta as his sidearm, instead of the correct SIG-Sauer P229 pistol typically issued to Secret Service. Many of the Berettas appear to be Bruni Model 92 8mm stage firing blank replicas. Many of them have the proper Beretta logo grips though, so they could have been installed on the props, or actual Berettas may have been used depending on location of filming.
Glock 17
A Glock 17 with a chrome slide and fitted with a suppressor is used by the former special forces soldier Javier (Edgar Ramirez) when he kidnaps President Ashton (William Hurt).
Heckler & Koch MP5A2 Navy submachine guns are seen throughout the film in the hands of Spanish police officers, some seen with two magazines clamped together.
Heckler & Koch MP5A3 Navy
USSS Agents are seen armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3 Navy submachine guns fitted with Surefire 628 weapon lights and some fitted with scopes.
Heckler & Koch PSG-1
A Heckler & Koch PSG-1 mounted on an automated platform is used by the terrorists to conduct the initial attack on the President.
Steyr SSG 69
Steyr SSG 69 sniper rifles fitted with bipods are used by the USSS snipers watching the President.
