The following guns were used in the movie We Were Soldiers
M16A1 assault rifle
Carried by US troops. Some are fitted with the M7 bayonet.
M1 Carbine
This weapon is carried by the South-Vietnamese advisor dressed in Tigerstripe-fatigues. He appears in the scene in which the NVA scout is caught and interrogated.
M60 machinegun
Carried by US soldiers. Also pintle-mounted door gun in helicopters (M60D-version).
Colt M1911A1 pistol
Fired by Sgt. Maj. Basil Plumley (Sam Elliott) during a close combat sequence.
NVA Weapons
The NVA weapons in this movie are of the basic types one will usually see in Vietnam movies on the /NVA/Vietnminh/Vietcong - side. In the beginning when the Vietnminh troops attack the French forces, several SKS (or possibly Chinese copies of them) rifles and at least one PPS-43 can be seen. The opening scene also features an AT-weapon of some sort, which would appear to be an M-20 3.5 inch Rocket Launcher "Super Bazooka". Later on in the movie standard AK47's (or possibly cloned Chinese Type-56 assault rifles)can be seen in addition to the SKS's.
M-79 grenade launcher
Some individual US soldiers can be seen carrying these. The M-79 only appears in a few short shots, though.
