Called .357 ingame. The Colt Python is an extremely powerful handgun and has a low ammunition capacity of 6 rounds, and a very slow rate of fire. This weapon is very rare in the game, but is sold in two out of the three Ammu-nations. It is not used by any NPC in the game except for the Ammu-nation store-keeper in Downtown VC. It can usually kill a person in one shot, except for law enforcement units with bullet-proof vests like the SWAT, FBI and National Guardsmen, where it's slow rate of fire can become a big hinderance. Interestingly, Tommy uses one in the cutscene at the end of the mission 'Rub Out' even if you don't have one in your inventory. | Called .357 ingame. Revision as of 17:52, 10 April 2010
The following weapons appear in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City:
Handguns
Has a theme color of yellow. Can be put to good use while robbing a store.
Colt M1911A1
Called 'Pistol' ingame. Has a large ammunition capacity of 17 rounds, moderate rate of fire and low damage. It is the most popular weapon in the game, used by the VCPD, all gang members, Patrol Invest Group (PIG) guards and many more. Great all-round weapon for virtually all situations from Vice Beach (first island) missions. You can easily stock up on ammo for free from as soon as the game starts from thug/cop fights if the thug wins (punch him once for "Good Citizen Bonus", and lead him to the cop so they fight. Thugs usually wins as long as you don't punch him too much, and you get a free nightstick and pistol). This is virtually the only weapon used by armed NPC's in free-roam outside of missions and sub-missions, until some members of Tommy's gangs start wielding Uzis after the completion of all story missions. The shopkeepers of the three Ammunation stores in VC also carry different weapons in free-roam.
Colt Python .357 Magnum, 6" Barrel
Sub-Machine Guns
Has a theme color of yellow. All can be used in drive-bys and can be fired to the front or sides while riding motorcycles. Interestingly, when fired from a vehicle, they all have the sound-bites of the Uzi, and a drastically much higher damage, so that one bullet will usually kill virtually every type of NPC.
Intratec Tec-9
Has a somewhat low rate of fire compared to other submachine guns in the game, moderate damage, and a high capacity magazine of 50 rounds. Used most prominently by Street Wannabes and low-level thug muscle in a few missions, but also by other gangs and the respawning Mafia attackers in 'Keep your friends close'.
MAC-10
The MAC-10 is a weapon with a high rate of fire and somewhat low damage. Sort of a small upgrade to the Tec-9. This weapon is very rare, as it is never used by NPC's during any missions - it is only wielded by the storekeeper of the Ammunation Store that sells the weapon in Vice Beach - but on the PC version only. On the PS2 version, he is unarmed. Interestingly, the game icon for this is actually a Micro-Uzi. The opposite is the case of the 'Micro-SMG' in GTA: San Andreas, where the game icon is that of a Mac-10, whereas the game skin is that of a Micro-Uzi.
IMI Uzi
Considerably the second most popular weapon in the game. Has moderate damage and a very fast rate of fire. Used by some law enforcement officers (SWAT, Cheetah Undercover officers), gang members such as Haitians and Cubans and many more NPCs throughout the game.
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
One of the most powerful weapons in the game. High rate of fire but slightly less to the Uzi, able to fire long ranges and a moderate ammunition capacity of 30 rounds. Can be found on FBI agents and US Army officers. Ricardo Diaz uses one when Tommy and Lance take over his mansion.
Shotguns
Has a theme color of dark green. When fired the shotgun shell can be erroneously seen leaving from the barrel in multiple directions.
Ithaca 37
A good reliable shotgun with a sort of fast firing rate. Has a low/medium damage. Called "Chrome Shotgun" in game.
Ithaca 37 "Stakeout"
Called a "stubby shotgun". It is based on a customized Ithaca 37 Stakeout used by Phillip Michael Thomas in Miami Vice.
Franchi SPAS-12
The most powerful shotgun in the game. has a really fast rate of fire with good damage and a small ammo capacity.
Assault Rifles
Has a theme color of orange. Allows aiming option by clicking the secondary fire mode button.
Ruger Mini-14
The Ruger is the first assault rifle the player encounters in the game. It has a Slow rate of fire and somewhat inaccurate with moderate damage. Tommy and Lance use two of these weapons to cover Diaz during a Drug Deal gone wrong with the Cubans. It is also used during the mission "All hands on Deck" when Colonel Cortez's sailor's wield these, and Tommy has one too.
Colt Mod. 733
It's a very powerful assault rifle. High rate of fire and damage. Tommy and Lance use M733s during their assault on Diaz' Mansion. Also used by some Military personnel and found spawned across the map.
Sniper Rifles
Has a theme color of pink. Allows telescopic sight view by clicking the secondary fire button.
Remington 700
The first sniper rifle the player will most likely encounter in the game. Has good damage and only fires one bullet at a time.
Heckler & Koch SR9(T)
The SR9(T) is the most powerful sniper rifle in the game. Comes with a 7 round magazine (though the real weapon only takes 5. 10, or 20 round magazines), and a laser magnifying scope (Which is more accurate in the long run). Can destroy a car with a whole magazine. Called Sniper .308 in PS2 version. Appears to be modelled after the fake SR9(T) from Sniper. This configuration is an anachronism, the SR9 series was not introduced until after the 1989 import ban. There is also a nonfunctioning suppressor on the rifle.
Heavy Weapons
Has a theme color of purple. Carrying such a weapon will slow down your speed and prevent you from jumping and sprinting.
M60 machine gun
Highly effective machine gun with a 100 round capacity. Can easily take down vehicles and can kill a person in one shot. Tommy uses a helicopter mounted one while on a mission for Diaz with Lance, which he later takes off the Heli for use in combat and keeps the weapon after the mission.
Hand Held GE M134
A hand held M134 minigun that can be bought off from Phil Cassidy after you complete his mission. Extreme rapid rate of fire and damage.
RPG-7
The only rocket propelled explosive the player can have in their hands. Extremely effective against helicopters and pretty much anything else.
Flamethrower
A hand held flamethrower that scorches anyone in front of it. It has a medium-long range.
Explosives
Molotov Cocktail
One of the types of grenades in the game. Ignites the area with fire that scorches anyone in it.
Grenades
There are two types of grenades in the game. One type which explodes with a timed fuse and another that explodes with a detonator.
Tear Gas
Usually found behind police precincts, they resemble the M18 Smoke Grenade and billow out a big grey smoke. Entering the cloud causes your vision to go blurry and you slowly take damage from the cloud. Can only be found in the PS2 version
Others
Desert Eagle
Not a Gameplay Weapon, It is only seen during the Intro to 'Supply & Demand' & 'Rub Out'. Also appeared in the Cutscene for 'The Shootist' being duel wielded by Phil Cassidy. The Same Model later Appears in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Heckler & Koch MP5K
Not a Gameplay Weapon. It is only seen in the opening cutscene being used by one of the thugs that ambushes Tommy's drug deal. The same model later appears in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Hughes M230 chain gun and AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank missile
Vice City features a version of the Hughes AH-64 Apache, known as the "Hunter." It has an M230 chain gun in a chin mount, and wing mounts containing eight AGM-114 Hellfire missiles in two packs of four, as well as two non-functional Hydra 70 rocket pods. Can be found at the military base, and the helipad in Ocean Beach when all missions and all hidden packages are completed. You can also use this for vigilante missions, althought these missions are called "Brown Thunder" instead (a spoof on the film, "Blue Thunder").
