Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
The following guns were used in the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie:
NOTE: This is a work in progress that likely won't be complete until DVD/Blu-Ray release. Amongst those weapons still to do are the police sidearms (which ought to be Webley Metropolitan Police models) and Holmes' efforts at a suppressed large-caliber revolver (which also looked suspiciously Webley-like).
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!
Webley 'Bulldog' revolvers
Many characters in the film employ short-barreled, birds-head stocked revolvers of the 'Bulldog' type made famous by Webley (and therefore most likely in .455 caliber). Most, like Watson's (Jude Law) and the American ambassador's, have the straightforward pull-out cylinder arbor without ejector, whereas Holmes' incorporates a swivel-type rod stored within the arbor. Other details of Holmes' (Robert Downey Jr.) personal weapon include a fluted cylinder, full-length grip, and a polished (if not stainless) steel finish - coincidentally much like an example on display at the Sherlock Holmes museum in London (see external links).
These Bulldogs could be by any number of British, Belgian, or other makers (assuming they are not modern reproductions).
Unidentified pocket revolver
Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) uses a pocket revolver of relatively large caliber, with open top and spur trigger, as seen in the promotional still below. (Possibly, given her nationality, a Smith & Wesson?)
C. Sharps Pepperbox
The mysterious coach passenger deploys, from a concealed wrist-mounted rig, a (probably reproduction) C. Sharps patent Model 1A four-barreled pepperbox type pistol in .22 rimfire with engraved brass frame.
Howdah Pistol
The Home Secretary has a large-caliber (most likely .577) centerfire Howdah Pistol by one of the usual makers (e.g. famed shotgun makers Purdey).
