The following guns were used in the film War of The Worlds
.38 Special
Before leaving his house with his family, Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) grabs an S&W .38 Special from a case under his bed. He is later forced to drop this gun when a carjacker steals his car. A bystander then picks up the pistol and shoots the carjacker with it, trying to steal the car himself.
Sig Sauer P229
During the film, a carjacker armed with a Sig Sauer P229 steals the car Ray (Tom Cruise) and his family are using by aiming his gun at Ray's head and forcing him to drop his .38 Special.
M4A1 carbine
In the final scenes of the film, U.S. Army soldiers can be seen carrying M4A1 carbines while directing refugees through Boston. When the alien dies after his tripod is disabled, one of the soldiers uses the barrel of his M4 to lift and then drop the alien's arm to confirm it is truly dead.
