Hell Let Loose is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Australian studio Black Matter and published by Team17. It released in early access on 6 June 2019, with a full release in July 2021 for PC. Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 consoles are set to get the game in 2021. The game takes a detailed, realistic approach to World War 2, with accurate maps, weapons and vehicles. The game launched with the US and the Germans, but updates added the Russians and British too. Canadian and Japanese forces are planned for future updates. Matches are 50 v 50, with multiple classes, each with weapon restrictions, as well as 14 classes in the game, each with different loadouts and different roles.
The following weapons appear in the video game Hell Let Loose:
Handguns
Colt M1911A1
M1911A1 handguns are issued to US Commanders, Crewmen, Machine Gunners, Medics, Officers, Snipers and Tank Commanders. It is called "M1911" in-game.
Luger P08
The Luger P08 is used by German Commanders and Officers as their sidearm, instead of the P38 below.
Nagant M1895
The Nagant M1895 is issued to fewer classes than the TT-33.
Tokarev TT-33
The TT-33 is the Soviet Union's main sidearm.
Walther P38
The P38 is issued to German Crewmen, Machine Gunners, Medics, Officers, Riflemen and Snipers instead of the Luger. It fires faster than the P08.
Submachine Guns
M1A1 Thompson
The M1A1 Thompson is available for US Assault, Automatic Riflemen, Commanders, Officers, Spotters and Tank Commanders. It has the same rate of fire as the MP40, but a slightly smaller magazine of 30 rounds. For some reason the rear sights has been cut in half and the peep sight enlarged, so aiming is now done by lining up the post with the sides of the curve in the metal.
M3 "Grease Gun"
The M3 "Grease Gun" is used by US Assault, Engineer and Support troops.
MP40
The MP40 is available for German Assault, Automatic Riflemen, Commander, Officer, Spotter and Tank Commanders. It fires slower than the PPSh-41, but is more controllable in full-auto fire.
PPSh-41
The PPSh-41 was added with the Russians as their primary submachine gun. Two versions are available, one with a 35 round magazine and one with the 71 round drum. The drum variant is correctly held by the drum itself.
Shotguns
Winchester Model 1897
The Winchester Model 1897 appears in the game as the M97 trench gun, it is used by the American Sapper loadout for the engineer and veteran loadout for the Assault class.
Self-Loading Rifles
Gewehr 43
The Gewehr 43 serves as the Germans main self-loading rifle, used by Assault and Officer troops. It has more recoil than the Kar98k, but 5 more rounds and a detachable magazine, making for faster follow-up shots and reloads.
M1 Carbine
The M1 Carbine is a close-range option for US Engineers, Medics, Officers and Point men. It has a short optimal range, but fast rate of fire and decent damage in its optimal range.
M1 Garand
The M1 Garand is the US Army's main rifle, used by Anti-Tank, Officers, Riflemen and Support troops. It can be manually reloaded, however the en-bloc clip is modelled with 8 unfired rounds in it, regardless of how many rounds have actually been fired, and the clip is dropped on the ground, yet the player retains it in their inventory. Alternatively, you could wait for the ping before reloading, which is faster.
Sturmgewehr 44
The Sturmgewehr 44 is only issued to German Assault and Automatic Riflemen troops. It cannot kill in one shot, unless a headshot is achieved, and only one can be in a squad.
SVT-40
The SVT-40 is the Soviet Union's self-loading rifle.
Bolt-Action Rifles
Karabiner 98k
The Karabiner 98k is the main rifle for the Germans, issued to Anti-Tank, Engineers, Medics, Officers, Riflemen and Support troops. Snipers have access to an 8x scope on their rifles, which is superior to the 6x or 2.5x of the US or Russian snipers.
M1903A4 Springfield
The M1903A4 Springfield is only issued to US Sniper troops, with a 6x scope.
Mosin-Nagant M1891/38
The Mosin-Nagant M1891/38, referred to as "Mosin-Nagant 91 38" is the Soviet Union's main rifle. Snipers use a PU scope with a 2.5x magnification.
Machine Guns
Browning M1919A6
The US Machine Gunner uses the Browning M1919A6, which has a 250 round belt.
Degtyaryov DP-27
The Degtyaryov DP-27 is the Russian Machine Gunner's main weapon. It cannot be aimed while not using a bipod, instead the screen zooms in a bit as the character moves the weapon closer to them. Unlike the 250 rounds of the German and US machine guns, the DP only has its 47 round pan magazine, making it less effective at covering fire.
M1918A2 BAR
The M1918A2 BAR is not used by the US Machine Gunner, instead it is used by the Assault and Automatic Riflemen in a similar role to the StG 44. It still has a bipod but no carrying handle, which is period correct. The selectable fire-rate mechanic is also implemented for this weapon, allowing players to switch between "slow" and "fast" fire modes.
MG42
The MG42 is the German Machine Gunner's weapon of choice. It uses a 250 round belt stored inside a 50 round drum, which is clearly not possible. When aiming without using the bipod, the player character folds the right bipod leg over to the left and holds both together as a grip, as the cooling jacket is too hot to hold. This is an actual tactic taught to MG42 gunners in the war, if they needed to fire from a standing position.
