Dawn is a 1933 German movie directed by Gustav Ucicky. Lieutenant Liers and his crew have to face the British fleet. Little by little, they succeed in sinking cruiser after cruiser of the British Royal Navy. But when Liers attacks a cruiser flanked by destroyers, the submarine crew has taken on too much. They are just able to dive, but the British crew has already set a trap for Liers and his men. The submarine is badly damaged and sinks inexorably toward the depths. Together with nine crew members, Liers is stuck inside the submarine.
The film was shot in the last years of the Weimar Republic before Hitler seized power in 1933 but was only released in a recut "Nazi-compatible" version after the seizure of power on January 30, 1933.
The following weapons were used in the film Dawn:
Mauser Gewehr 1871
British sailors are briefly seen with Mauser Gewehr 1871 rifles.
Maxim MG 08
A Maxim MG08 machine gun is used by the British sailors standing for a Vickers.
Luger P08
The arsenal of the U-Boot contains some Luger P08 pistols.
