The Drummer's Fate (original title Sudba barabanshchika) is a 1955 Soviet B&W children adventure movie directed by Viktor Eisymont and based on the novel by Arkadi Gajdar. The story takes place in late 1930s USSR. The main character is twelve years old boy Seryozha Batashov, the son of military engineer Pyotr Batashov. Once a secret document that Batashov kept at home was lost due to negligence of Batashov's wife Valentina, Seryozha's stepmother. Batashov is suspected in espionage and arrested, Valentina immediately divorces him and soon leaves the town with her new husband, so Seryozha remains alone. After some time a stranger appears and claims himself to be Valentina's brother. Soon the boy spots strange activities of "Unkle Vasya" who is very interested in Batashov's works.
