The Guardians is a 2017 French movie directed by Xavier Beauvois based on the 1924 novel Les Gardiennes by Ernest Pérochon. France, 1915: Her two sons are away at war, so Hortense and her daughter Solange have to run the farm without male help. She hires Francine, a young orphan, to work in the fields as a maid. She hopes to have finally found a family. When Hortense's son Georges visits the farm, he falls in love with Francine. Soon he has to return to the front, and the young woman faces a new challenge.
