Opening Credits Massacre

The scene at the beginning of the film in which protestors placing flowers in the muzzles of M&P soldier's rifles before being killed is a mix between two famous (or infamous) events during the time of the Vietnam war. The use of the M1 Garand and opening fire on the rioters was based on the Kent State Shooting in 1970, when Nation Guardsmen (not M&P) opened fire on protesting students. There's a little history lesson for you.
