Revision as of 02:03, 25 July 2009

The following weapons were used in the television series Miami Vice:

SIG-Sauer P220

Don Johnson uses a SIG-Sauer P220 in the pilot episode of the show. Considering that the pilot episode was filmed in the spring of 1984 the model used would most likely have been a first generation "American" model.

Nope. The improved "American" model (with the 1911-style mag release that was introduced on the P226) didn't come out until 1986-87. All P220s available in 1984 (when the Pilot was filmed) would have had the heel-clip magazine release.

So it would have been the European model then. Jcordell

It was most likely a Browning BDA, which is what Browning used to call the P220 in the early-80s when they were the only company in the U.S. importing it.
Nope. The pistol is seen from the right side in one particular scene of the pilot episode where Don Johnson is holding a driver at gun point. The pistol is clearly marked "P220" and does not have the distinct round shape at the front of the slide like the Browning BDA. It is definately a Sig likely manufactured in West Germany and imported via New Hampshire.

M60 machine gun

An M60 can be seen in the back of a Van in the start of an episode.

Dornaus & Dixon Bren Ten

Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) uses a Bren Ten in the first and second seasons of the show. It was essentially a beefed-up CZ 75 chambered for the original 10mm Norma Auto cartridge which differs slightly in case length from later 10mm rounds. This round was HOT, and consequently damaged the guns. In the '80s this was a new cartridge, but is rarely used in modern day. The company of Dornaus& Dixon was an ill-fated one, and since the producers of the Miami Vice-series would not use discontinued guns, it was replaced with the S&W 645 auto pistol

I remember reading somewhere, I believe it was in Soldier of Fortune, that, towards the end, the manufacturer proved so unreliable that weapons were being shipped without mags. Additionally there was a tale that, in one episode Johnson does a combat reload leaving the mag on the ground allegedly viewers returned to the scene of the episode to look for it due to its rarity.
