The following weapons were used in the film We Own the Night:

Handguns

Smith & Wesson Model 36

During the opening montage of 1970s-1980s NYPD photos, a Smith & Wesson Model 36 can be seen in an officer's holster. Another officer in the montage carries a Model 36 in an ankle holster. Chief Burt Grusinsky (Robert Duvall) uses a Model 36 during the chase/shootout.

Smith & Wesson Model 60

Bobby (Joaquin Phoenix) receives his father's Smith & Wesson Model 60 from his older brother Joe (Mark Wahlberg) after he is sworn in. When the story takes place (1987-1989) the S&W Model 60 was authorized by the NYPD and officers could purchase it through the department's equipment bureau. NYPD officers are not issued their handguns. They purchase their handguns and therefore they own their own handguns.
