Screaming Steel: 1914-1918 is a modification for Day of Infamy and is an online tactical shooter themed on the First World War with relatively realistic conditions. It is an updated version of the WW1 Source of Half-Life 2 which has its origin in The Trenches mod of the first game. In December 2016, the change of the modification's name to Screaming Steel: 1914-1918 was announced. The main reason given for this was the departure from its status as a pure Half-Life 2 modification, as Screaming Steel, for technical reasons, turned more towards the Day of Infamy modification, also created with the Source Engine, as it uses a more modern and user-friendly variant of the engine. The core elements and mechanics of Day of Infamy are retained for the most part.
The mod received on July 19, 2021, with the "Endgame Update" new weapons, maps, and units for both the Commonwealth and German Empire.
The following weapons appear in the video game Screaming Steel: 1914-1918:
Pistols
Colt 1903 Hammerless
The Colt 1903 Hammerless is available for the British Bomber, Machinegunner, and Officer classes.
Frommer Stop
The German Offizier and Sturmpionier classes could use the Frommer Stop. Like the 1903 Hammerless, it has no upgrades and shares the same reload animation.
Luger P08
The Luger P08 is the standard sidearm for four German classes.
Artillery Model
The Luger P08 Artillery Model appears as the "Lange Pistole 08" and is the standard sidearm for the Angreifer class for all maps.
Mauser C96
The MG Schütze, Offizier, and Sturmpionier can choose the Mauser C96 pistol. Like in Day of Infamy, the mid-reload releases the unspent rounds.
Webley & Scott Mk. I
The second sidearm for the British faction is the Webley & Scott Mk I which has a faster fire rate than the Webley revolver. It is usable by the Bomber and Officer classes.
Revolvers
Reichsrevolver M1879
The Reichsrevolver M1879 is a selectable sidearm for the MG Schütze, Offizier, Sturmpionier, and Scharfschütze. It is one of two revolvers brought into the game via the 2021 "Endgame Update".
Smith & Wesson Mk. II
The Smith & Wesson Mk II Hand Ejector appears as the "Mk II Hand Ejector" and is available for the Bomber, Marksman, and Officer.
Webley Mk. VI
The Webley .455 Mk VI is the standard sidearm for the British Bomber, Machinegunner, and Officer classes. The Marksman can also choose the Webley. A Webley with a fixed "Pritchard" bayonet is selectable exclusively for the Officer class. Both variants can be equipped with a speed loader and a lanyard.
Submachine Guns
Bergmann MP18
The Bergmann MP18 appears as the "MP 18,I" in-game and is available for the German Angreifer class. It can only be selected on maps that are set in 1918.
Shotguns
Browning Auto-5
The Browning Auto-5 is the main weapon of the British Assault class for close combat and is equivalent to the MP18 in this respect.
Rifles
Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III*
The Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III* appears as the "SMLE No.1 Mk.III*" and is the standard rifle for the British Empire. It can be equipped with a Pattern 1907 sword bayonet, stripper clips, a 2.5x Galilean sight, or a 4x Aldis M1916 scope for the Marksman class. The rifleman has access to "Hale" rifle grenades.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The Mauser Gewehr 1898 is the standard rifle for the German Empire. Each class can mount a Seitengewehr 98/05 bayonet and equip it with stripper clips for faster reloading when shot empty. The Karabingranate M1914 is available exclusively for the Schützen class. For the Scharfschütze, there are two scopes to choose from: a 2.5x Zeiss Glasvisier 16 and the 4x Gerard scope, both of which allow reloading with stripper clips.
Mauser Karabiner 98AZ
The Mauser 98AZ Artillery Carbine is available for the Fernmelder and Schütze class.
Ross Mk. III
The Ross Mk. III can be chosen by the Marksman and Signaler classes. The handguard can be cut down via a weapon upgrade reducing the sway of the rifle. The Ross rifle of the sniper is fitted with an American Warner & Swasey M1913 Prismatic Musket Sight.
Winchester Model 1907
The Winchester Model 1907 with a 5-round magazine appears as the "Model 1907 SL" and is the second main weapon for the Assault class. It can be equipped with a 10-round magazine and is the only semi-automatic rifle in the game.
Machine Guns
Lewis Gun
The Lewis Gun is the standard light machine gun for the British. It can be equipped with a 97-round magazine, which incorrectly has the same model as the 47-round magazine.
Madsen M1902
The Madsen M1902 is the second introduced machine gun for the German machine gunner. It holds 25 rounds in the magazine and can be fired from the hip. The in-game model has an earlier-style barrel and mounted support prop on the stock.
Maxim MG 08/15
The Maxim MG08/15 was the first playable machine gun for the Germans. Unlike the lighter Madsen, it can not be fired from the hip.
Flamethrowers
Wechselapparat M1917
The Wechselapparat M1917 is available for the German Sturmpionier class and holds 300 "flame" ammo. While running, the sloshing of fuel in the tank can be heard.
Hand Grenades
Handnebelbombe
The Handnebelbombe smoke grenade is available for the Offizier, MG-Schütze, Scharfschütze, and Sturmpionier classes.
Jam Tin Grenade
The British "Sentry" class has access to Jam Tin Grenades.
Mills Bomb
The standard grenade for the BEF is the Mills Bomb.
Model 13 Kugelhandgranate
The Model 13 Kugelhandgranate is available exclusively to the German Schildwache class.
Model 13/15
Another grenade that can only be used by the German "Sentry" class is the Model 13/15 Kugelhandgranate. Compared to the normal Kugelhandgranate, it can be thrown further and detonates on impact.
Model 14 Karabingranate
The Schütze's Gewehr 98 can be equipped with M14 Karabingranate rifle grenades.
Model 15 Diskushandgranate
The Model 15 Diskushandgranate is an available grenade for the Angreifer, Schütze, and Sturmpionier classes. It detonates on impact.
Model 16 Stielhandgranate
The Model 16 Stielhandgranate appears simply as the "Stiehandgranate" and is the standard grenade for nearly all-German classes. A Geballte Ladung with 7 warheads is also available to the Angreifer and Sturmpionier classes.
No. 12
The No. 12 "Hairbrush" Grenade is available for the British Assault and Bomber class. It places the same role as the Geballte Ladung with its massive explosion.
No. 20 Mk. I Hale Rifle Grenade
No. 20 Mk. I Hale Rifle Grenades can be used by the British rifleman and replace the No. 2 Mk. 2 grenades that the class could use before the last update.
No. 27
The No. 27 Smoke Grenade is used by the British Bomber, Machinegunner, Marksman, Officer, and Signaler.
No. 27 Mk. I
The British Assault and Bomber class can use the No.27 Mk. I Chemical Incendiary Grenade.
Other
10.5 cm leichte Feldhaubitze 16
An unusable Feldhaubitze 16 is seen on the map "Givenchy".
Ordnance QF 18 Pounder
An Ordnance QF 18 Pounder field gun is seen on the map "Somme" which also can not be used.
