[[File:Sicario-mk23.jpeg|thumb|none|500px|A promotional picture of Benicio del Toro as Alejandro holds the Mark 23. The MK23 can be differentiated from the USP series by the raised sections of the front and rear of the slide at the point the sights are situated, from the curved underside of the front of the frame and also the threaded hole in the front of the wider, elongated trigger guard (for installation of a Wilcox or similar locking LAM unit) which you can see clearly in this still.

Also the frame on a Mark 23 is significantly wider before the integrated rail than on a USP. Though it is hard to identify in the film, this enhanced publicity still helps, as well as a brief side shot in the film, detailing the unique Mark 23 trigger guard.]]

[[File:Sicario 28.jpg|thumb|none|600px|Alejandro ([[Benicio del Toro]]), while carrying his Gen 4 Glock 17, (if you look closely) can actually be seen with the Mark 23 in his vest holster, suppressor attached. Nifty continuity and foreshadowing. This could not have been mistaken for a similar USP, as it has an ambidextrous safety lever, which can clearly be seen on its left side.]]

Mexican Federal Police officers, Border Patrol Officers, and cartel members carry M4A1s with detachable carrying handle rear iron sights and older A2 rounded handguards.
