1883 is a Paramount+ original streaming series that is a prequel to the Paramount Network series Yellowstone. The series follows an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they make the dangerous trek from Fort Worth, Texas to Montana and to what will eventually become the Dutton family ranch. Like Yellowstone, 1883 was co-created by Taylor Sheridan, the director/screenwriter responsible for such screenplays as Sicario, Hell or High Water and Those Who Wish Me Dead, and who also wrote and directed several episodes of the series. The cast includes Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Isabel May as well as cameo appearances from Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Billy Bob Thornton. The series premiered on December 19, 2021, on the streaming service Paramount+.
