The Lahti L-35 is a Finnish manufactured semi-automatic pistol. It was manufactured from 1935 to 1952. The pistol was used by Finland throughout the Winter War (1939-1940) and the Continuation War (1941-1944). The Lahti is a high quality pistol which works reliably in cold weather and when dirty. While aesthetically resembling the Luger P08, the L-35 is more mechanically similar to the Bergmann-Bayard, with recoil-operated action that fires using a concealed hammer and locked breech. The pistol was originally designed to be chambered in both 7.65×21mm Parabellum and 9×19mm (both calibers Finland had great quantities of), but ended up only being chambered for 9x19mm.
A Swedish copy of the L-35 Lahti, the Husqvarna m/40, saw service with the Swedish military until the 1980s. The m/40 has the same internal design as the Finnish L-35, but was made from lower quality steel. Cracking in the frame was common. The cracking worsened when the Swedish military started shooting hotter 9mm ammo, designed for the Carl Gustav M/45 SMG, through the pistol. It was phased out in the 1980s and replaced by the Glock 17.
The Lahti L-35 and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
