'Curiouser and curiouser!' cried Alice... Forgotten Weapons describe that MG08/15 were improved during Interbellum, and one of the improvements was the bipod attachment at the muzzle. A photo of Wehrmacht soldiers with 08/15 shows the model with the bipod near the muzzle. So, it looks like we can identify the machine guns in both Ernst Thälmann and Rodnye berega as the modified MG08/15. It would be good to find a sample image of this version, but until now I cannot find such. --Greg-Z (talk) 11:26, 19 January 2021 (EST)

::A very interesting material! And there are photos of MG08 with muzzle boosters that look similar to Russian Maxim. So... all Maxims in Ernst Thälmann may be really German 08s, some with original muzzle and some with this version - possibly also Interbellum modification. --Greg-Z (talk) 11:56, 19 January 2021 (EST)

Revision as of 16:56, 19 January 2021

Some Maxims seem to be not MG08 but rather Russian M1910 on MG08 mountings, judging by the muzzle booster. This screenshot shows the M1910 muzzle booster quite well. --Greg-Z (talk) 08:03, 19 January 2021 (EST)

Thank you for this information, so, what do you think which of the current images contain the M1910? I would say the last two. I will also upload some more images in the next few days. And one more thing, is there also any information for the MG08/15 in this forum? Because this thing looks a bit strange compared to the gun image--HighPhigh (talk) 09:26, 19 January 2021 (EST)
Two last, yes, and if my poor eyesight doesn't deceive me, the first one also has M1910 muzzle booster. Sorry, the Maxim was the only point of discussion on this film was on forum.guns.ru. But there is a somewhat similar machine gun in Rodnye berega. Only the barrel with bipod is seen in this film, but what is seen, looks similar to the supposed MG08/15 in Ernst Thälmann. I couldn't find any version of MG08 with such position of the bipod so the MG in Rodnye berega was identified very random. --Greg-Z (talk) 09:48, 19 January 2021 (EST)
I found this screenshot in internet. The machine gunner at the left is lying down, which is uncommon for MG08, especially in comparison with the MG crew at the right. Maybe this is same dubious "08/15"? --Greg-Z (talk) 10:14, 19 January 2021 (EST)
About the armored car: I guess that it's a made for movie inaccurate replica of Ehrhardt E-V/4. --Greg-Z (talk) 10:14, 19 January 2021 (EST)

[1]. It wasn't a complete move, it just added an additional mount with the ability to switch. --Slon95 (talk) 11:38, 19 January 2021 (EST)
