The Ortgies Pocket Pistols were produced after the end of World War I by Heinrich Ortgies in a small gun factory in Erfurt, Germany. The Ortgies were then made by a larger firearms manufacturer Deutsche Werken AG in Erfurt Germany in 1921. The pistol series was originally made in 7.65mm (.32 ACP) but in 1922 the 6.35mm (.25 ACP) was put into production followed by a 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP) model. The .32 pistol could be changed to .380 by just changing the barrel. The pistols were imported into the United States and sold by Stoeger for $7. The production of the Ortgies pistol lasted from 1919 to 1924 and a total of 236,000 large frame pistols (.32 ACP) and 183,000 .25 ACP pistols were built.
