The 15-year-old Günter still believes in the final victory. He is the fastest in the hunt for a Russian boy, an escaped foreign worker. The Russian is shot by the village policeman. Günter proudly accepts the Iron Cross and volunteers for the front. Neither the mother nor the teacher can stop him. Soviet soldiers attack him the first time, but he can flee home.
