The Turncoat is a 2020 four-part film drama directed by Florian Gallenberger (John Rabe , Colonia ) based on the novel of the same name by Siegfried Lenz. Summer 1944: Wehrmacht soldier Walter Proska has to go back to the Eastern Front. There he ends up with the unit of Willy Stehauf, a ruined bunch that fights in vain in the swamps of Rokitno against mosquitoes, partisans, and gradual madness. His officer's cruelty, his regime-critical comrade Wolfgang, but above all his love for partisan Wanda, also make Walter increasingly doubt the meaning of the war.
