About
The Manufacture d'armes de Bayonne (roughly translated as "Bayonne Arms Factory", abbreviated as MAB) was a French arms manufacturer that specialized in handguns.
The company was created by Léon Barthe in 1920 and was active from 1921 to the end of the 1980s. At first it produced derivatives FN/Browning pistols, mainly from FN Model 1906 and FN Model 1910. The company survived the German occupation during World War II and from the 1950s onwards, the company started to manufacture it's own firearm designs. The 1970s saw the first financial difficulties, which lead to the company becoming a subsidiary of Fabrique Nationale of Herstal sometime during the decade. Around 1985, the company went bankrupt and survived for few more years in the form of MABCO.
