The following weapons were used in the 2005 remake of the movie War of the Worlds:

Smith & Wesson Model 36

Before leaving his house with his family, Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) grabs a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver from a case under his bed. He is later seen firing it into the air to disperse a mob swarming his commandeered minivan, but is forced to drop this gun when a carjacker steals the van. A bystander then picks up the pistol and shoots the carjacker with it, trying to steal the van himself.

SIG-Sauer P226

During the film, a carjacker armed with a SIG-Sauer P226 steals the minivan Ray and his family are using by aiming his gun at Ray's head and forcing him to drop his revolver.

M4A1 Carbine

In the several scenes, U.S. Army soldiers can be seen carrying M4A1 carbines, most notably while directing refugees through Boston near the end of the film. When an alien dies after its' tripod is disabled, one of the soldiers uses the barrel of his M4A1 to lift and then drop the aliens' arm to confirm it is truly dead. The M4A1's in the film are seen fitted with various accessories such as RIS foregrips, M68 Aimpoint and ACOG scopes, C-More red dot sights, and AN/PEQ-2 laser systems.

Mk 19 Grenade Launcher

In the scene where Robbie Ferrier (Justin Chatwin) is trying to hitch a ride with a passing Army convoy, one of the passing Humvees can be seen mounting a Mk 19 grenade launcher.

M16A2 Rifle

U.S. military personnel appear carrying M16A2 rifles several times during the film; first in the Army convoy that passes by the Ferrier family, then in the hands of Marines in the hilltop battle scene. (looks like and A4 to me. It has rail covers. As well is has an attached flashlight which appears to be mounted the way a light would be on a rail.)

Browning M2HB Heavy Machine Gun

The Browning M2HB heavy machine gun appears twice in the film; first mounted on U.S. Army vehicles in a convoy that passes by the Ferriers, then on U.S. Marine Corps vehicles in the hilltop battle scene, most notably on a burning Humvee rolling past Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins)' house.

M67 Hand Grenade

In the scene where Rachel Ferrier (Dakota Fanning) is captured by one of the tripods, Ray Ferrier finds a bandolier of M67 hand grenades in an abandoned Humvee and throws one at the tripod to get its' attention. Once captured by the tripod, he uses the rest of the grenades to destroy it from the inside out.

In the final battle scene, U.S. Army soldiers can be seen firing several Carl Gustav recoilless rifles at the tripod (even though this weapon is only used by special forces units in the U.S. military, not regular infantry as shown in the film).

FGM-148 Javelin

Another weapon used in the final battle scene of the movie is the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile launcher, used by U.S. Army soldiers to bring down a tripod after Ray Ferrier observes that the shields on top of the tripod are disabled, thus making it vulnerable to the top-attack Javelin missile.

Winchester Model 1912

The character Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins) can often be seen with a Winchester Model 1912 shotgun close by him, first seen holding it in the air following the hilltop battle scene to signal Ray and Rachel to him. He comes close to using it when some of the aliens are prowling around the basement of his house where he, Rachel, and Ray are hiding, but is stopped by Ray for fear that opening fire would reveal their location to the aliens.
