The No. 34 Egg Grenade (or Egg Bomb) was introduced in the British Army in 1917 as a response to the light German Model 17 Eierhandgranate. It used an internal percussion delay fuse, which meant that after the pin was removed the grenade had to be smashed against a hard surface in order to trigger the fuse.
