Malay Regiment is 2017 Malaysian war film directed by Dato' Jurey Latiff Rosli, based on the real-life events of Operations Kota Gubir I and II, where an elite soldiers from the 17th Royal Malay Regiment (17th RMR) unit have ambushed several communist camps at Malaysia-Thai border, near Gubir, Kedah.

An M16A1 assault rifles is the standard service rifle seen carried by the majority of Malaysian security force, especially 17th RMR soldiers. These rifle was also seen in the hands of the MCP guerrillas.
Both MCP guerillas and 17th Malay Regiment soldiers uses M79 grenade launcher throughout the movie. In real life, this weapon used by guerilla to shots down the Sikorsky S-61A4 Nuri chopper, causing eleven soldiers, the pilots and crews perished in the incident.
