The VK-98 (VK standing for ''Volkssturmkarabiner''), a.k.a. VG-5, was a German rifle produced by Steyr for the German militia ''Volkssturm'' near the end of WWII. Developed as a response to the shortage of arms, the VK-98 is very simply made, made from surplus Kar98k and other gun parts and other crudely-made components. Most known examples do have a functioning 5-round fixed magazine, but some uncommon examples had no magazine and were single shot, which were generalized by some sources as being a property of most VK-98s.
