Heroes & Generals: Difference between revisions
The Colt M1903 Hammerless is the US pocket pistol. It is similar to the pocket pistols of the other nations and also fires a rather small round being .32 ACP. Despite this, it can still be very deadly when performing headshots.
Colt M1911A1
The famous Colt M1911A1 is the second available handgun for the US Forces.
Colt M1917
Players can unlock the Colt M1917. It reloads with a speedloader.
Mauser 1934 Taschenpistole
The Germans can get a Mauser 1934 Taschenpistole as an early unlock. In real life this was the standard sidearm of the German Kriegsmarine (Navy) but as it was a very common pistol at the time, German high ranking officers and even lower ranks got this pistol as their sidearm. As it fires the rather small 7.65x17mmSR/.32 ACP it has a rather low recoil thus follow up shots can be fired very fast. This is also reflected ingame. The developers even got the reload procedure right, which is very impressive as the actual reloading sequence of this weapon is somewhat special. The pistol locks the slide back when the last round has been fired, you pull the old magazine out, insert a new one and at that time the pistol automatically unlocks the slide chambering a new round.
Mauser C96
The Mauser C96, which carries the nickname "Broomhandle", is the second pistol unlock for the German Armed Forces.
Luger P08
The Luger P08 is the third pistol which can be unlocked for the German side.
Walther P38
The famous Walther P38 is the fourth pistol unlocked for the German side. It has a similar behavior as the Luger P08 ingame, so it is more a matter of personal preference which one you choose.
Korovin TK
The Soviet Korovin TK is one of the smallest guns ingame. It fires the 6.35x16SR Browning / .25ACP which allows fast follow up shots due to the low muzzle climb. Although this weapon was never officially adopted into Red Army use, lots of them were issued anyway to any person who didn't really need a weapon but wanted to carry one for self defence like high ranking officers, medics etc. It is a very special weapon in the game as it has been rarely seen in media so far.
Tokarev TT-33
The Tokarev TT-33 is the second Soviet pistol which you can unlock.
Nagant M1895
The Soviet Nagant M1895 is a very powerful revolver ingame. It has a very interesting reloading animation, which correctly shows how each bullet is inserted into the cylinder one by one.
Submachine Guns
M3 "Grease Gun"
The first submachine gun for the US is the M3 "Grease Gun". It has a rather low rate of fire but due to the .45 ACP round it packs quite a punch.
Thompson M1A1
The Thompson M1A1 is the second unlockable submachine gun for the United States. It is a very powerful weapon ingame with a rather high rate of fire while still being controllable.
MP34
The German Forces can first unlock the MP34. Ingame it uses the smaller 20 round magazine but it is still quite effective. This weapon is rarely seen in video games, this fact makes this weapon very interesting and unique.
MP40
The well known MP40 can be unlocked by the German Forces. It features a 32 round magazine and has a pretty controllable recoil. It is a great all around weapon ingame.
PPD-40
A rarely seen weapon in video games is the PPD-40. It is the first available submachine gun for the Soviet Faction, has a large drum magazine and is nice to clear out buildings.
PPSh-41
The second unlockable SMG for the Soviet Union is the very famous PPSh-41. It has a large 71 round drum mag and a high rate of fire. In close quarters combat this weapon is very effective.
PPS-43
The PPS-43 is the third unlockable SMG for the Soviet Union. It uses normal 35-round magazines but other than that it feels similar to the German MP40 ingame.
Rifles
Springfield M1903A1
The standard US bolt action rifle is the Springfield M1903A1. It is reloaded with a 5 round stripper clip.
Springfield M1903A1 with M84
US soldiers can first unlock the Springfield M1903A1 with M84. Although technically not impossible, this combination is rather uncommon. A more historical combination would be the M1903A4 with M84 scope as shown in the photo below but as changing the model from an 1903A1 to A4 would create more work for the game developers, I guess this was avoided. The scope has a 2.2x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips.
Springfield M1903A1 with Unertl 8X
US Snipers can unlock the Springfield M1903A1 with Unertl 8X. The scope has a powerful 8.0x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips.
M1 Garand
The M1 Garand is the US semi automatic rifle. It works very well in most situations, makes the usual "PING" sound when it is empty and is loaded with an 8 round en-bloc clip.
M1D Garand with M84
US Infantry, Recon and Paratrooper classes can unlock the M1D Garand with M84. The scope has a magnification of 2.2x. You can still reload the rifle with the usual 8 round en-bloc clip as the sight is offset to the left to allow this.
M1 Carbine
One of the most produced rifles of WW2 being the M1 Carbine can be acquired by the US paratrooper. It is a fast firing semi-automatic weapon with a rather weak ammo which means that it loses power over distance rather fast.
M1 Carbine with M84
US soldiers can unlock the M1 Carbine with M84. The scope has a magnification of 2.2x. Although this is a real combination in real life, it would be nearly impossible to see this in World War 2 (and even more in the European Theater of Operations) as scope mounts for the Carbine variants were mostly available after the war. The earliest variant was the M3 Carbine with the IR scope (which used the same scope mount) which was first used in the Battle of Okinawa.
M1A1 Carbine
The player can unlock the M1A1 Carbine for the US paratrooper class and tanker. The M1A1 is the folding stock version of the standard M1 thus making it a ligher version. This is also reflected in the game as the M1A1 takes fewer equipment points.
M1/M2 Carbine
A late war version called the M1/M2 Carbine is featured in the game. It is a select fire version which can switch between semi and full automatic fire. In the closing months of WW2 in Europe US Ordnance issued conversion part-kits to the US Forces fighting in Europe to counter the widespread use of German assault rifles. Those converted M1 Carbines were called M1/M2 Carbines.
M1/M2 Carbine with M84
US soldiers can unlock the M1/M2 Carbine with M84. The scope has a magnification of 2.2x. This is the same case as the M1 Carbine with M84, in fact chances to see an M1/M2 Carbine with a M84 scope in WW2 is even more unlike, probably impossible.
Karabiner 98 Kurz
German soldiers can grab the powerful Karabiner 98k. The model ingame is a later version as it features the front sight hood. Reloaded with 5 round stripper clips.
Karabiner 98 Kurz with ZF39
German infantry and sniper classes can get the Karabiner 98 Kurz with ZF39. The scope has a 4.2x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips.
Karabiner 98 Kurz with ZS Zielacht
The powerful Karabiner 98 Kurz with ZS Zielacht can only be unlocked by German snipers. The scope has a 8.0x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips.
Gewehr 43
The Gewehr 43 is the semi automatic rifle for the German faction ingame. As the Tokarev SVT-40 for the Soviet Union, this rifle also reloads from a 10 round box magazine.
Gewehr 43 with ZF-4
The ZF-4 scope is available for the Gewehr 43. The scope has a 4.0x magnification.
Sturmgewehr 44
The first ever mass-produced assault rifle, the famous Sturmgewehr 44 can be unlocked for German solders.
German Fallschirmjäger troops can unlock the rare Fallschirmjäger Gewehr 42. As in real life it has heavy recoil when fired in full auto mode; if you switch it to semi-auto or shoot in short, controlled bursts, this weapon is very deadly due to the rifle cartridge. The model in game is the early model FG42.
The Mosin Nagant M91/30 is the standard Soviet bolt action rifle. It has clean sights and reloads with a 5 round stripper clip.
Mosin Nagant M91/30 with PU
The Mosin Nagant M91/30 with PU can be unlocked by Soviet Union infantry and sniper classes. The scope has a 3.5x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips.
Mosin Nagant M91/30 with ZS Zielacht
The powerful Mosin Nagant M91/30 with ZS Zielacht can only be unlocked by Soviet snipers. The scope has a 8.0x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can only be reloaded round by round, no stripper clips. Although the combination of a German scope with a Soviet rifle might sound strange, it is believed that this could have happened during WW2 as the Soviets did not have their own high powered scope available.
Tokarev SVT-40
The standard semi automatic rifle for the Soviet Union is the Tokarev SVT-40. It is fed from a 10 round detachable box magazine. It is a great all-around weapon ingame.
Tokarev SVT-40 with PU
The semi automatic Tokarev SVT-40 with PU can be unlocked by Soviet infantry and sniper classes. The scope has a 3.5x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can still be reloaded with box magazines.
Simonov AVS-36
The Simonov AVS-36 is featured in the game as the Soviet Union's last unlock. It is a full-auto rifle and fires a heavy rifle bullet. It has a high recoil, but if fired in short bursts it is a very effective weapon.
Simonov AVS-36 with PU
The Simonov AVS-36 with PU can be unlocked by Soviet Union infantry. The scope has a 3.5x magnification. When attaching the scope, the rifle can still be reloaded with the usual box magazines. It is unknown if this combination existed in real life, a more usual choice would have been with a PEM scope, an earlier sniper scope which generally had the same specifications as the PU but was more complex to manufacture. By the time the PU scope arrived at the front lines, most AVS-36 rifles were already lost or captured by the German Forces but it is still possible that some AVS-36 rifles received the PU scope.
PTRD-41
The Soviet faction can unlock the PTRD-41, a very powerful anti-tank rifle. Ingame it is very powerful against soft-skinned vehicles and light tanks, but it struggles against the heavier armored vehicles. It is a single shot, bolt action rifle which loads a massive 14.5x114mm round.
Machine Guns
Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A2
The Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A2, also called "BAR", is the first light machine gun for the United States. It is a very powerful weapon in close ranges, but also for medium ranges if you fire short bursts.
Browning M1919A4
The United States infantry soldiers can also unlock the Browning M1919A4. The variant ingame looks like it was directly dismounted from a pedestal mount from a vehicle as it still has the mounting fitted at the bottom of the MG. The ladder sights are folded up and it uses a 50 round belt.
Johnson M1941 Light Machine Gun
A very interesting and unique weapon in the game is the Johnson M1941 Light Machine Gun, which is rarely seen in any video games. It looks and sounds very well-done for such a rare weapon.
MG34
The MG34 is the first unlockable machinegun for the German faction. Ingame it mounts the 50 round belt drum called Gurttrommel 34. It has a good rate of fire and is best used in prone position firing bursts, otherwise the recoil will be rather high.
MG42
The MG42 is the second LMG which the German faction can unlock. As in real life, it has a very high rate of fire and is rather difficult to control except if you use it in prone position. It is fed via 50 round belts.
Degtyaryov DP-28
Soviet soldiers can get the well known Degtyaryov DP-28. It has a very unique magazine design which holds 47 rounds and feeds from the top. This gave it it's nickname "Record Player".
Launchers
