ShKAS (means Shpitalny-Komaritski Aviatsionny Skorostrelny - Rapid fire machine gun for aircraft designed by Shpitalny and Komaritski) is a Soviet machine gun widely used by Red Army aviation in the late 1930s and during World War II. It was designed by Boris Shpitalniy and Irinarkh Komaritsky and entered production in 1934. This machine gun had a very high rate of fire - 1800 RPM (3000 RPM in the UltraShKAS modification). It was produced in fixed version for fighter planes and in turret version for bombers.
