The Day of the Triffids (2009) is the third of three filmed versions of John Wyndham’s classic science fiction novel (adaptations were also released in 1962 and in 1981). Like the 1981 adaptation, the 2009 version was released as a BBC television miniseries. This adaptation is more or less faithful to Wyndham’s story and arguably features the best cast, best performances, and best special effects of the three. The BBC mini-series was directed by Nick Copus and starred Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Eddie Izzard, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jason Priestley. A solar storm blinds humanity, which falls prey to carnivorous, walking plants.
