During the second day of fighting, several retreating U.S. soldiers are seen using 60mm [[M2 Mortar]] or possibly 81mm [[M1 Mortar]] rounds as hand grenades against the Japanese. They armed the rounds by banging them against their helmets and threw them, killing several enemy soldiers. This would've been a technique used by others after being demonstrated by Charles "Commando" Kelly when in Italy 1943. This tactic was also demonstrated in [[Saving Private Ryan]] only they used the mortar base plate to prime the rounds.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Hacksaw Ridge is a 2016 World War II film directed by Mel Gibson and tells the true story of Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), a US Army medic who refused to carry a weapon into battle due to his religious beliefs and ended up receiving the Medal of Honor for saving the lives of 75 of his fellow soldiers. The cast also included Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, and Teresa Palmer.

Arisaka Type 99

Arisaka Type 99 rifles are the most commonly seen rifles in the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army. These late war rifles where known as "Last Ditch" rifles and were very crudely manufactured with most missing the accessories of the earlier models.
