| The Barrett XM109 (formerly known as the OSW, "Objective Sniper Weapon" and now called AMPR, "Anti-Material Payload Rifle") is an anti-materiel rifle under development by Barrett Firearms; it is essentially a new upper receiver for the M82 series. It uses the 25x59mm round, originally introduced for the XM307 belt-fed grenade machine gun. As the XM307, the XM109 can also be reconfigured back to .50 BMG. The XM109 comes with 5-round magazines.
| |
| | |
| The project's current status is not particularly clear; the original requirement for the weapon was set out in 1994 and prototypes have existed since the late 90s with studies released in 2002; 10 prototypes appear to have been built in 2004 with the XM109 being folded into a broader anti-material rifle congressional program along with the Barrett XM500 in 2006, but there has been little information released on further development or potential adoption.
