::::I really don't know if there are 581s with 3" barrels (google shows only 4" except for custom versions) but what other blued S&W with full underlug and fixed sights exists? I'm confused. Greg-Z (talk) 11:11, 11 January 2015 (EST) | |||
: I don't believe the 581 was ever made (from the factory) with barrel length other than 4" and maybe 6". That said, I don't believe this is a 581. It doesn't look big enough, for one. Also, the barrel underlug doesn't look right (note it comes to a hard flat stop right before the end of the barrel, not quite the same as the Smiths, which have the underlug meet the end of the barrel). Furthermore, the frame markings aren't correct on the lower right - This revolver seems to have some kind of two-level markings, and not the four-level 'Made in USA/Marcas Registradas/Smith & Wesson/Springfield Mass' markings. Plus I don't think the markings were ever whited-in on S&Ws except for certain models (mainly special variants or Performance Center versions). I suppose it could be one of those special models or one-offs, but I doubt it. The logo and markings here are reminiscent of a Taurus revolver, but I'm not sure that's right either. The shotgun may be a Mossberg 500 field gun. As for the unknown revolver, I think I see the S&W logo in the second shot. --Funkychinaman (talk) 08:32, 11 January 2015 (EST)

- I would guess that it's a Smith & Wesson Model 581 as it's a blued revolver with full underlug and fixed sights. Greg-Z (talk) 10:57, 11 January 2015 (EST)
