We Own the Night is a 2007 American crime drama that is set in Brooklyn, New York City in the late 1980s. The story focuses on Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) a night club owner (with business ties to the Russian Mob) and black sheep of a multi-generational family of NYPD officers. When his older detective brother Joe (Mark Wahlberg) and assistant police chief father Burt (Robert Duvall) are targeted and hit by the Russians, Bobby is forced to decide which side he'll stand with. The title comes from the motto of the NYPD's controversial Street Crimes Unit, which disbanded in 2002 after thirty-one years of service.
The following weapons were used in the film We Own the Night:
Handguns
Smith & Wesson Model 36
During the opening montage of 1970s-1980s NYPD photos, a Smith & Wesson Model 36 can be seen in an officer's holster. Another officer in the montage carries a Model 36 in an ankle holster. Chief Burt Grusinsky (Robert Duvall) uses a Model 36 during the chase/shootout.
Smith & Wesson Model 60
Bobby (Joaquin Phoenix) receives his father's Smith & Wesson Model 60 from his older brother Joe (Mark Wahlberg) after he is sworn in. When the story takes place (1987-1989) the S&W Model 60 was authorized by the NYPD and officers could purchase it through the department's equipment bureau. NYPD officers are not issued their handguns. They purchase their handguns and therefore they own their own handguns.
Smith & Wesson Model 10 HB
Several NYPD officers are armed with heavy-barreled Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolvers.
Beretta 92FS
A hitman with the Russian mob uses a Beretta 92FS to shoot and wound Capt. Joe Grusinsky.
Colt Commander
Pavel Lubyarski (Oleg Taktarov) draws a Colt Commander when Vadim tells him to kill Bobby.
Shotguns
Ithaca 37
Many NYPD officers, including Lt. Michael Solo (Antoni Corone), Capt. Joe Grusinsky (Mark Wahlberg), and Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) use Ithaca 37 shotguns.
Winchester Model 1200
A Russian mobster fires a Winchester Model 1200 during the drug raid but is shot and killed.
double-barreled shotgun
A double barreled shotgun inside a violin case is shown off by an officer during the opening photo montage.
unidentified shotgun
One of Vadim's men uses a shotgun to shoot at Chief Burt Grusinsky (Robert Duvall) during the car chase.
Submachine Guns
Smith & Wesson M76
Many NYPD ESU officers carry Smith & Wesson M76s, including one that narrowly misses Bobby during Bobby's undercover assignment.
Micro Uzi
Several of Vadim's men are armed with Micro Uzis.
Heckler & Koch MP5K
One of Vadim's men fires a Heckler & Koch MP5K during the shootout with the police.
Rifles
Ruger Mini-14
Some of the NYPD ESU officers carry Ruger Mini-14 rifles during their raids.
AKMS
Several of the Russian mobsters carry AKMS rifles. Vadim Nezhinski (Alex Veadov) grabs one while attempting to make his escape.
Remington Model 700PSS
A police guard watching over Capt. Grusinsky's house holds a Remington Model 700PSS.
