Taurus PT57 is a "small brother" of Taurus PT92 series. The base version, PT57S (S - standard), appeared in 1982. It was chambered in .32 as it was the largest caliber that Brazilian laws permitted for civilian use. A slightly improved version PT57S AMF appeared in 1984. In 1987 Taurus launched PT57SC that had a 102 mm barrel instead of 117 mm on previous versions.
