Colt Diamondback with a 2.5 Inch barrel - .38 Special

The Diamondback was intended to be a premium quality adjustable sighted small framed revolver that would resemble the popular Colt Python. The Diamondback was built on the Colt "D" frame as used for the Colt Detective Special, Colt Police Positive, etc. It had a Target hammer, Target type walnut grips, Colt Accro adjustable sight, and a barrel that looked like a Python barrel and was in fact built on Python machinery. Though the Diamondback looks like a miniature Python, it isn't of the same quality. The action wasn't tuned to Python standards and the blue job was not the Royal Blue as used on the Python. The Diamondback is essentially a Detective Special with adjustable sights and a scaled down Python barrel. It also cost more than the standard Colt Detective Special. The Diamondback was marketed to law enforcement agencies who did not allow the use of the .357 Magnum cartridge. The snub-nose Diamondback was something of a prestige handgun among police detectives during the Seventies. It was particularly popular with Los Angeles Police detectives according to some sources.

The Colt Diamondback and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
