The American Friend (original title Der amerikanische Freund) is a 1977 German/French crime drama directed by Wim Wenders and based on the novel "Ripley's Game" by Patricia Highsmith.
Another cinema adaptation of the same novel is Ripley's Game (2002) directed by Liliana Cavani and starring John Malkovich and Dougray Scott.
