The Substitute is a 1996 action film starring Tom Berenger as John Shale, a mercenary who poses as a substitute teacher at the high school that his girlfriend teaches at in order to find out why she was attacked. The film would spawn a series of direct to video sequels including The Substitute 2: School's Out, that starred Treat Williams in a similar role.
The following weapons were used in the film The Substitute:
Handguns
Smith & Wesson Sigma 9F
Mercenary John Shale (Tom Berenger) is seen using a Smith & Wesson Sigma 9F when confronting Juan Lacas and his guys in the school. At the time this film was made, the Sigma was new to the market and it appears that whenever the pistol is seen fired, a Glock was substituted.
Glock 17
On the shooting range, Wellman (Richard Brooks) is seen firing a Glock 17. It also appears that a Glock is seen several times instead of what is supposed to be the Sigma.
Walther PPK/S
Juan Lacas (Marc Anthony) is seen carrying a Walther PPK/S as his main handgun. He is also seen using it with a suppressor (lacking a threaded barrel to accept said suppressor).
SIG-Sauer P226 (Nickel)
A nickel SIG-Sauer P226 is the main sidearm of Hollan (William Forsythe). The nickel SIG is also seen throughout the movie in the hands of various other characters, including Johnny Glades (Rodney A. Grant), Lacas' henchmen, and the school librarian.
Heckler & Koch P9S
A security guard at the school is seen holding a Heckler & Koch P9S. This pistol is later seen in the hands of one of Lacas' henchmen who holds Jane Hetzko (Diane Venora) and her students hostage. It is also fired by Jerome (Sharron Corley).
Beretta 92FS
One of Lacas' guys is seen holding a Beretta 92FS while holding Shale hostage. Shale also handles the pistol. The Beretta is also used by Claude Rolle (Ernie Hudson) as his sidearm at the end of the movie.
Beretta 92FS Inox
On the shooting range, Joey Six (Raymond Cruz) is seen firing a Beretta 92FS Inox. He later uses it to kill two of Johnny Glades' henchmen at a cocaine drop.
Jericho 941
John Janus (Willis Sparks) uses a two-tone Jericho 941 during the final shootout at the school.
Heckler & Koch USP
When Shale's team is at the gun range, an unloaded Heckler & Koch USP is visible sitting on the table with the group's cache of weapons. The USP also appears to be used by one of the high school security guards working with Juan Lacas, and is also pulled briefly by Joey Six at the end of the movie.
Submachine Guns
Uzi
Both Shale and Rem (Luis Guzmán) are seen using full size Uzis fitted with Sionics suppressors during the final shootout at the school.
MAC-10
The rival mercenary John Janus and his team are seen using suppressed MAC-10's during the final shootout.
Heckler & Koch HK94A3 (with MP5SD fake barrel shroud)
Both Joey Six (Raymond Cruz) and Wellman (Richard Brooks) are seen using Heckler & Koch HK94A3s fitted with fake MP5SD suppressors (actually barrel shrouds) during the final shootout. Judging by the trigger group and the rate of fire, these are not even full-auto conversions of the HK94.
Rifles
M16A1
Shale is seen with an M16A1 fitted with a scope after the opening mission in Cuba. In his demo reel, John Janus is seen disarming several soldiers armed with M16A1 rifles. Wellman (Richard Brooks) has the rifle slung while on the shooting range.
Colt CAR-15
What appear to be Colt CAR-15 are seen on the table at the shootin range.
Other
M136 AT4
Joey Six (Raymond Cruz) is seen using an M136 AT4 during the final shootout.
Mk.II Hand Grenade
Rem (Luis Guzmán) also holds a Mk II Hand Grenade during the final shootout.
