: The original Thompson safety could only be applied with the bolt cocked open. For safety just walking about with a loaded magazine in place, the British cut an extra safety notch on the 1928 bolt so the safety could be applied with the bolt closed on an empty chamber. I would expect to see Brits toting Tommy Guns with the bolt closed with a magazine in place unless immediate combat was anticipated. That second safety cut was adopted by the US with the M1 Thompson series. Good Brit idea. | |||

Isn't it odd how Rains, when he fires his M1911A1:
- runs out of ammunition after three shots, even though he hasn't used the pistol at any point during the mission;
- doesn't have the slide lock back after the gun runs out; and
- manages to get his gun to do some kinetic clicking even though it's a single-action?
