Special

The film was produced on a low budget that quickly got out of control. Only two actors played German soldiers, meaning that they are killed multiple times during the film. Hell is for Heroes utilizes the use of stock war footage shot during WWII. As with some other war movies of the era, filmmakers inserted clips of actual war footage saving time and money. Most of the stock footage is of artillery being fired, but also includes the some of machine gun fire. Below are some screenshots of the stock footage of artillery.

Discussion

How does an escalating budget have anything to do with the guns jamming? or looking fake? Is it established that they replaced them with crap prop guns or something? 75.36.148.131

I just worded that kinda shitty. I was going to sperate that into the special section. The gun jamming was meant as a seperate paragraph. I'm fixing that now. thanks for the heads up though. --Mauser 04:29, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Nice work

It looks good. I consider this little movie to be one of the best WW2 films ever made. And you can't tell me there weren't aspects of this film that were used in Saving Private Ryan. This movie has been used by many different filmakers (for inspiration) since. Don Siegel was an outstanding director and knew how to get the most out of a limited budget. He started as a second unit director in the 40's and had a reputation for being pretty inventive. And of course in Steve McQueen he had a actor who excelled at the "naturalistic" school of acting. It's a tough movie to screencap. It's B&W and so much of takes place at night. Don't get too wrapped around the axle over Mr. 75.36.148.131 post. Anyone who can't be bothered to register and have an actual identity shouldn't be taken too seriously. Once again good job and you beat me to it. I hate you. --Jcordell 14:27, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Mauser did a decent job. But he needs to put gun links on the descriptions, captions under the images and use peridods.--Oliveira 14:36, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

True, but like all of us that comes with time and experience. I just wanted him not to get too wound up regarding a crititque from an anonymous poster.--Jcordell 17:58, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Mauser did the right thing, acknowledged the mistake and corrected it. I would be concerned if members started ignoring information because of the source, not if it's correct or not. The original comment was very confusing and I am glad Mauser fixed it.  :) MoviePropMaster2008 22:21, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I guess. It's just that it is kind of tiring telling people that. I was like that when I first got here so I can't blame poor Mausy.--Oliveira 18:43, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

I made mistakes as well.--Jcordell 21:57, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Good job Mauser on this page. It is looking good. MoviePropMaster2008 22:21, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks everyone for the comments on the page. I agree with Jcordell that this is one of the best WWII movie made. Unlike some other older films this one, in my opinion, actually demonstrates the grimmer side to war. Aspects of this movie certainly found there way into Saving Private Ryan. Poor Mausy is right OLIVEIRA (lol). I’m human, so mistakes can be expected. I didn’t really know what to put for captions; I'm trying to think of some stuff. As for the comment of 75.36.148.131 that was a little mix up. I had put a little disclaimer at the top of the page asking users not to edit or post anything because I was building the page, and I think he posted that at the same time I had copy and pasted all my corrections into the page. I hit save and this error notice came up. I was so worried that I had lost my few hours of work, but I fixed it. He was just helping by bringing that to my attention, so I listened and fixed it to clear up any mistakes/misconceptions. Thanks MPM2008, I'm glad to see users enjoy my pages. P.S. Thanks for the nickname Oliveira “Mausy” (sighs), sounds like a damn cat’s name. --Mauser 11:42, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah. I wish i could watch this movie. It's pretty hard to find old movies like that here in Brazil. Anyway, good work Mauser.--Oliveira 13:51, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Does anybody have any screencaps of the satchel charges in the film?
