'''''To Have and Have Not''''' is a 1944 drama starring [[Humphrey Bogart]] as world-weary American boat owner, Captain Harry Morgan who along with his alcoholic sidekick Eddie ([[Walter Brennan]]) make a living on the island of Martinique operating a charter sports fishing boat for hire. it is 1940, America is still a neutral country, and World War II is going on around them when they are approached by "Frenchy" Gerard, the owner of the hotel where Harry rents a room. "Frenchy" is a member of the French Resistance. "Frenchy" and his compatriots want to hire Harry and his boat for "a Job." A shootout at the hotel ensues when the Vichy French police try to arrest some of the Resistance operatives. An American customer of Harry's is killed in the shootout. The Vichy Sûreté Nationale (Vichy Gestapo) shows up with armed French Navy sailors and question Harry and then confiscates his money. Being put in the middle of the Gestapo's search for the leader of the French resistance Harry decides to help a resistance leader escape with the help of Marie "Slim" Browning played by Lauren Bacall. | |||

To Have and Have Not is a 1944 drama starring Humphrey Bogart as world-weary American boat owner, Captain Harry Morgan who along with his alcoholic sidekick Eddie (Walter Brennan) make a living on the island of Martinique operating a charter sports fishing boat for hire. it is 1940, America is still a neutral country, and World War II is going on around them when they are approached by "Frenchy" Gerard, the owner of the hotel where Harry rents a room.
