The old model Blackhawks were loaded in the same manner as the Colt SAA series, which involved moving the hammer back to the first click to unlock it, and the old loading method of "load one, skip one, load four" was used because they predated the modern transfer bar. The new model series of Blackhawks are different and one simply needs to open the loading gate.
