On the Replica Props Forum, they have discussed the MIB pistol in the past, and according to people who worked on the film the pistols were custom made, then copies were cast in metal and chromed.  No real firearm in them, or used as a base.

Several MiB Agents including Agent K ([[Tommy Lee Jones]]) can be seen using [[SIG-Sauer P230]] pistols dressed up to look like alien weapons as their sidearms, Agent K using his on several occasions; first using it to kill an alien charging one of the police officers at the beginning of the film, then to blow off one of Jack Jeebs ([[Tony Shalhoub]])'s heads when he's being questioned later on.

Several identifying features can be seen in the photo used on the page, including:
*Raised vertical stripes at the front and rear of the receiver.
*The screw holding the ejector in place.
*The overall shape of the receiver.
*The apparent presence of an external hammer in several scenes.
You can make out the first two features on the photo used on the main page, and neither is a feature of the Model 1912.
