Joshua Rose/Guy (Dennis Quaid) is trained on a Vektor R4 modified for the Designated Marksman role when he joins the French Foreign Legion that he uses throughout the film. This weapon would be accurate for the Bosnian Serb military which purchased a few thousand R4 rifles during the conflict, but not for the French Foreign Legion. The modifications include a scope mounted on an AK-style receiver mount (the original Galil scope mount notch was replaced by a lightening cut on the R4) along with a cheek rest which has been installed on the original folding stock and removal of the sights.

The true identity of the "sniper rifle" used by Guy in the movie has been a topic of hot debates over the years. The weapon makes its first appearance at the beginning, when Guy is seen being trained to its use in the Foreign Legion. Later, he is seen using it in Bosnia.
Zastava M59/66
The movie takes place in Bosnia during the Yugoslavian Civil War, and thus many Yugoslavian or possibly Russian weapons can be seen in the movie. Some of the militias appear to be armed with the Zastava M59/66 (local copy of the SKS rifle).
[[Image:YugoSKS.jpg|thumb|none|450px|Yugoslavian SKS M59/66 rifle with blade bayonet and grenade launcher attached to barrel, the variant most seen during the Balkan Wars - 7.62x39mm.

It would seem that the weapon is a modified Galil sniper rifle. The modifications seem to include a scope along with the needed attachments, a cheek pad and a folding bipod. The weapon also uses a slightly curved magazine, whereas the normal Galil sniper rifle has straight box magazine.  It could be an AK-47 mocked up as a Galil sniper rifle.

The MP5-A2 is used in the film by the Serbian soldier Goran. The weapon can be identified as a A2-model by its fixed stock. It is unclear, however, if German MP5A2's were used by Serbian militias during the actual Yugoslavian civil war, though.

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta pistols seen in the Parisian mosque shooting scene are presumed to be the M9 model, since both Joshua Rose/Guy (Dennis Quaid) and Peter Dominic (Stellan Skarsgard) are US government officers and thus having the right to carry them. A Beretta 92FS is also seen in the hands of the wounded Muslim who is shot.

Trivia

Aérospatiale Gazelle

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
The helicopters that attack Goran and Guy are Aérospatiale Gazelles. The Aérospatiale Gazelle was only operated by the Bosnian Serb army during the Yugoslav Wars; therefore Goran and Guy as Bosnian Serb soldiers being attacked by a Bosnian Serb helicopter does not add up. While the current Bosnian military operates 4 Gazelles the former Bosniak "Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina" did not.

Notes

 • During the prisoner exchange a Bosnian Serb soldier is seen with a pump action shotgun, however it is seen too briefly and is too blurred to be worthy of documentation in IMFDB.
