::Old question, but there is a visible difference apart from the sights. On the 59 the double stack frame step is behind the slide stop pivot pin, whereas on the 459 the step is ahead of it. :The first-generation Model 59 would sometimes crack at that point in the slide. By beefing up the lower receiver the problem was basically eliminated though it could still happen occasionally even after the change was implemented. It really wasn't much of an issue with the first generation. I have read sources that state it would require thousands of rounds, often thousands of hot loads - such as the old NATO 9mm loads for sub-guns, fired before the lower frame would crack (if then), but it happened enough that Smith made the change. --[[User:Jcordell|Jcordell]] ([[User talk:Jcordell|talk]]) 18:49, 9 March 2023 (UTC) |
