Kokoda is a 2006 Australian war movie directed by Alister Grierson. New Guinea, 1942, Australia is at war with Japan. A small Australian group of the 39th Battalion is in the vicinity of Kokoda as an advance guard. After fierce fighting, they are completely on their own, with no communications, no outside, and no supplies. Isolated far behind enemy lines, they must make their way back. Through the dangerous jungle, without food, weakened by malaria and nasty wounds, always ready to face the enemy.

A documentary mini-series with the same name was released in 2010.

Most of the Australian soldiers carry the Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III* rifle, including Jack Scholt (Jack Finsterer), his brother Max Scholt (Simon Stone), Darko (Travis McMahon), Johnno (Tom Budge), Sam (Steve Le Marquand), Dan (Angus Sampson), Wilstead (Ewen Leslie) and the Lieutenant (Ben Barrack). Several other Australian soldiers also carry SMLE rifles at their base and during the final battle.
